France’s first nuclear submarine, Le Redoubtable was launched in 1967, commissioned in 1971 and decommissioned from service in 1991. In its twenty year operational history, it (she?) made 51 patrols of 70 days each, clocking up 90,000 hours of diving and 1.27m km of distance travelled. La Redoutable was put into dry dock at the end of her career and converted into a visitor museum in Cherbourg-Octeville in France.
