Chateau de Rochechouart (France, 1975)

The Chateau de Rochechouart dates back to the 13th century and was home to the de Rochechouart family for 800 years. They were movers and shakers of French nobility, with several heads of the household named Aymeric.

Wikipedia has a lovely story about Alix, wife of Aymeric VI, who was accused of adultery in 1205. Locked in the castle’s lion cage (doesn’t everyone have a lion cage??), everyone expected Alix to become a snack. Instead the lion lay down at her feet. This was taken as a sign of her innocence so she was freed. The chap she was accused of sleeping with was chucked into the cage instead and didn’t fare so well. I’m sure there’s a moral to the story, but I’ll let you decide what it is…
