World Environment Day is celebrated on 5 June each year. First held in 1974, it is coordinated by the United Nations as a way to raise awareness of environmental issues. Campaigns follow a new theme each year and currently reach over 140 countries. The theme in 1980 was A New Challenge for a New Decade: Development without Destruction. The 2020 theme was Connecting People with Nature.
I’m kind of torn between admiration for the collective endeavour and persistence and dismay at the fact that our environment is in tatters. By way of balm for the soul, I discovered the Happy Eco News website (see second link below). Worth a look as a reminder of the good things we can all achieve.
