Woman with letters (Czechoslovakia, 1954)

I can give you nothing more than a description, a nation and a year (thanks to those who catalogue stamps in obscure corners of the internet). Maybe that gives me the freedom just to talk about the linework, the softness of the woman’s face, the envelope in her hand, why that envelope is the one that she looks at with such care. There’s something about the collar and button of her cape (not to mention that she’s wearing a cape not a coat, which just makes her even more mysterious). No link today, just permission to off on a lyrical journey of your own wondering who the letter is to or from, and why she’s smilling that Mona Lisa smile.
