10th International Festival of Tourism Film (my translation, France, 1976)

Film de tourisme sounds so much more elegant than “tourism film” or “films about tourism”… So many elements to this stamp that I can’t pretend to understand: statues, engravings, a strange lantern. Suffice to say that the 10th International Festival of said films was held in the town of Tarbes in 1976. The festival seems to have disappeared at some point only to be re-invigorated as the catchily named ART&TUR (arte & toursime). There is also an International Committee of Tourism Film Festivals, suggesting multiple successors to our 1976 version.

Tarbes, by the way, is a town in the foothills of the Pyrenees, population just over 40,000 – and it hosts a FESTIVAL OF STAMPS every February (pandemics permitting)! I mean, seriously, sometimes the world just gives you gifts like this: a stamp that leads to a town that has an annual celebration of stamps.
