Jederzeit Sicherheit (Germany, 1972)

OK, so this one grabbed me. It’s a picture of someone in Wicked Witch of the West tights falling off a ladder. There has to be some awesome Germanic folk tale behind this, right? Right?

Turns out to be a bit more prosaic. This is one of a series of seven stamps issued in West Germany in 1972 on the theme “every time, safety”. I have no idea if Germany in the early ’70s saw a spate of ladder-related accidents to justify this one. Others in the set include warnings about electric shocks, running out into the road and – you can picture this one – not standing underneath heavy boxes that are being lifted by cranes.

So be warned! Look after yourselves. Jederzeit sicherheit.
