1000th Anniversary of Ibn Zaidoun (Morocco, 1976)

A mystery. This stamp is listed on other sites as commemorating the 1000th anniversary of the Ibn Zaidoun mosque. And yet a search for the mosque reveals a poet called Ibn Zaidoun who was born some thirty years too late for it to be named after him. I’m posting this late in the day, with two pots boiling on the stove and not enough time to solve the mystery. Perhaps the mosque was renamed in some moment of celebration or upheaval. Perhaps it no longer exists. Perhaps it’s there but just doesn’t want to be found. Let’s leave it alone…
