
First, the flower. The disperis fanninae is an orchid species native to South Africa. It’s sometimes known colloquially as Granny’s Bonnet, though it turns out several flowers share that nickname so it’s best to stick to the Latin if you want to be precise. It has CITES Appendix II status, which means that trade is strictly controlled to reduce the threat of extinction.
