Dagen H (H Day) – Sweden, 1967

A treat for you today – not one stamp, but two! I’m just excited that the Swedes created a set to mark the occasion of Dagen H…

Dagen H was on 3 September 1967. It was the day that Sweden officially changed from driving on the left to driving on the right. All of Sweden’s neighbours already drove on the right hand side, and most vehicles in the country were left-hand drive, so it made sense. That said, a large proportion of the population opposed it.

Think lane markings, signage, trams, traffic lights, driver education. Just a huge logistical undertaking and well worth doubling up on stamps for the day.
