Alain Gerbault was an all round adventuring type who circumnavigated the globe, solo, in a 39ft yacht. He spent 700 days at sea over the period 1923 -1929 (so had some nice stopovers). He then settled in the South Pacific, wrote his book and island-hopped for the rest of his days. What a star.
